TN: Tension in Pudukottai village after group clash, 14 arrested

Pudukottai (Tamil Nadu), May 6 (Reporter) Tension prevailed for some time in Vadakadu village in Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu after a clash between youths belonging to two communities late on Monday night. Police said here on Tuesday that the trouble started during the Muthumariyamman temple festival in the village, when some youths belonging to both the communities under inebriated condition indulged in a verbal quarrel over filling petrol to their two wheelers in a petrol bunk. The youths clashed with each other after the quarrel. A hut belonging to a Dalit family and a two-wheeler were set on fire, while the glass pane of a government bus was damaged in a stone pelting incident. Few persons were injured in the clash and were admitted to the Alangudi government hospital. Tamil Nadu Law Minister S.Regupathy and Pudukottai Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta visited the village and held talks with the people belonging to both the communities. A large number of police men were deployed in and around the village to prevent any backlash.
