Chennai, Mar 21 (Reporter) Tamil Nadu Minister for Finance and Environment
and Climate Change Thangam Thenarasu presented the Final Supplementary
Estimates for the year 2024-25 to the Legislative Assembly on Friday.
He placed the detailed statement containing the Demand for Supplementary
Grants on the table of this august House.
The Supplementary Estimates placed before the House are for an amount of
Rs.19,287.44 crore, of which a sum of Rs.12,639.36 crore is in the Revenue
Account, Rs.6,429.20 crore is in the Capital Account and Rs.218.88 crore is
in the Loan Account.
He said the Supplementary Estimates are being presented to obtain the approval
of the Legislature for expenditure on items mainly constituting 'New Service' and
'New Instrument of Service', which were sanctioned after the First Supplementary
Estimates 2024-2025 presented on December 9, 2024.
In the Supplementary Estimates, few of the major items for which additional
appropriation is required included Rs.2,000 crore provided as Share Capital
assistance to Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to enhance its financial
sustainability and to improve its infrastructure.
For Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department a sum of Rs.1,400 crore
provided as additional allocation for the construction of houses under the scheme
of ‘Kalaignarin Kanavu Illam’ (Former CM M Karunanidhi dream home), Rs.1,036
crore provided for arrears of Electricity dues to Power Utilities, Rs.1,000 crore as
additional allocation to the State Transport Undertakings for purchase of buses,
Rs.901.84 crore towards “Relief on Account of Natural Calamities”, for various
mitigation activities in connection with Cyclone Fengal and heavy rainfall during
the Northeast Monsoon 2024 and Southwest Monsoon 2024, he said...////...
