Kolkata, Aug 18 (Reporter) West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Ray was on Sunday summoned by the police after he demanded CBI custodial interrogation of ousted RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh and city Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
Roy, a renowned lawyer, raised the demands in a post on his X handle in connection with developments linked to the alleged rape-murder of a trainee doctor in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, which has shocked and angered people across India, particularly the medical fraternity.
However, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has strongly opposed the statement of the MP.
"(The) CBI must act fairly. Custodial Interrogation of ex Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated (the) suicide story," Roy posted
He also asked why the wall of the hall was demolished, and sought to know under whose patronage (the arrested accused Sanjay) Roy became so powerful,
"Why (was) sniffer dog used after 3 days.100s of such questions. Make them speak," the MP posted.
Meanwhile, there were reports that the police has summoned Roy to the city police headquarters Lalbazar by the afternoon.
S S Roy had taken part in the "Women, reclaim the night" mass protest on Wednesday-Thursday midnight against the alleged rape and murder of the 31-year-old post-graduate trainee medic.
Roy had then said he wanted to join the movement "because I’ve a daughter and little granddaughter like millions of Bengali families".
Earlier, TMC leader and former Rajya Sabha member Santanu Sen demanded the CBI custodial interrogation of Sandip Ghosh, following which the party dropped him from its list of national spokespersons.
Kunal Ghosh, while strongly opposing Roy's demand, said "Today, MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has tweeted that there should be a custodial interrogation of the police commissioner (of Kolkata). We oppose this demand because CP Vineet Goyal did his best within 12 hours and the accused has been arrested and more interrogation was underway."
Ghosh said "The CM had asked for more 3-4 days and there were chances of a breakthrough. But now the case is with the CBI and the CM has no objection to it."
Ghosh termed "illogical" Roy's demand for the "arrest" of the police commissioner. "We condemn this demand. He should not have tweeted this"
Reacting to Roy's demand, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya claimed that his party has consistently demanded the custodial interrogation of the Police Commissioner and the former chief of RG Kar Hospital.
CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty welcomed Roy's demand regarding the custodial interrogation of Ghosh and the police chief...////...
