Malda, Feb 26 (Reporter) Trinamool Congress leader Lovely Khatun, who won the Panchayat election in 2023 and became Rashidabad Gram Pranchayat Pradhan, was accused of being a Bangladeshi immigrant and stripped off her post by an order from the local Sub-Divisional Officer in Malda district, an official sources said on Wednesday. Khatun alias Nasifa Sheikh, who won the last Panchayat poll, was dragged into the Calcutta High Court after her defeated poll rival Rehana Sultana sought the judicial intervention, accusing the TMC leader of being a Bangladeshi immigrant and procuring her documents by forging her name as well as her father's details. However, Khatun allegedly skipped several high court summons but the issue recently became a hot topic owing to latest political developments in Bangladesh, and the local people started taking the issue officially with the district administration. The SDO in an order has stripped Lovely Khatun from the post of the Rashidabad Gram Panchayat Pradhan under Harishchandrapur block in the Malda district, sources added. The opposition leaders from Congress Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty, and BJP leader Jagannath Chatterjee slammed the TMC leadership and demanded action against those who had provided Indian documents to Lovely Khatun.
