Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that a grand theatrical production based on the life, legacy, and ideals of Samrat Vikramaditya will be staged at the historic Red Fort in Delhi on April 12, 13, and 14. The production aims to bring to light the exemplary model of governance established by Vikramaditya nearly 2,000 years ago. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Dr. Yadav stated that this event aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “From Heritage to Development”, serving as a guiding principle for contemporary India.
The mega theatrical event will portray the legendary emperor’s governance, valor, philanthropy, and deep sensitivity toward his people. Over 250 artists—including professionals from diverse fields—will bring the story to life through live performances featuring elephants, horses, and royal palanquins. The presentation will include various dramatic emotions (rasas), particularly focusing on bravery (veer ras), and is supported by both the Madhya Pradesh and Delhi governments. A previous performance in Hyderabad had received immense appreciation.
Dr. Yadav emphasized that Samrat Vikramaditya’s reign stands as an unparalleled example of good governance. He remains the only ruler in history whose life continues to inspire people across generations. His innovations and reforms are still relevant today. One of his most enduring contributions is the establishment of the Vikram Samvat calendar in 57 BCE after defeating foreign invaders. The Vikram Samvat, known for its scientific accuracy and spiritual significance, remains in use across India today.
