Hyderabad, Sep 26 (Reporter) The CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad celebrated its annual Open Day on Thursday, inviting the public to explore the world of scientific research. The event, which has been a tradition since the institute's inception, saw an impressive turnout of nearly 7,000 visitors, primarily students from schools and colleges. The Open Day provided attendees with a unique opportunity to engage with scientists and gain insights into various research areas in biology. The expansive exhibition showcased a wide array of research topics, ranging from ecology and population-level studies to cellular and molecular biology. Visitors were introduced to the different organisms studied at CCMB, including zebrafish, fruit flies, scorpions, millipedes, rats, mice, and microbes like yeast, viruses, and bacteria. "We learned how scientists study different organisms and their cellular processes," remarked a student participant, adding that the event was an eye-opening experience for many aspiring young scientists. In addition to the research exhibits, there were stalls highlighting career opportunities in life sciences entrepreneurship and demonstrating the use of art to communicate scientific concepts. Despite the ongoing school exams, the Open Day attracted strong participation from educational institutions, with teachers going the extra mile to bring students after their exams. CCMB expressed its gratitude to the teachers for their support, noting that the event’s success reflects the keen interest in the education sector to understand the work conducted at a premier scientific research institute. Notably, visitors came not only from different parts of Hyderabad but also from neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, undeterred by the ongoing rainy weather. The event served as a testament to the growing public interest in scientific research and the desire to engage with leading research institutions like CCMB...////...
