Guwahati, May 27 (Reporter) Tension gripped the Mankachar sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border on Tuesday morning after the BSF personnel reportedly tried to push back 14 Bangladeshi nationals who had entered the Indian side illegally.
According to the locals, the incident took place at Thakuranbari area along the international border when the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) who opposed the handover process of the 14 Bangladeshi nationals. The BSF had to fire in the air to disperse a crowd who gathered on the other side of the border opposing the BSF pushback.
South Salmara District Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta confirmed the incident and said that the administration was looking into the incident.
In a statement later, the BSF, said the force successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by a large group of Bangladeshi nationals from the Bangladesh boundary in South Salmara Mankachar district, Assam.
“In early hours of May 27, vigilant BSF troops deployed at Indo-Bangladesh international border in district South Salamara Mankachar, Assam observed suspicious movement of Bangladesh nationals approaching towards international boundary from the Bangladesh side with intention to cross into Indian territory. Acting swiftly, BSF troops challenged them to prevent their unauthorized entry into Indian territory. The Bangladeshi mob subsequently retreated into Bangladesh,” the BSF stated in a statement issued on Tuesday.
It may be mentioned here that the Assam Police recently intensified its operation against the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam. Scores of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators are detained by the police from different parts of the state for verification.
A recent Ministry of Home Affairs directive asked states and UTS to book the undocumented illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The MHA has also issued directions to the DGs of BSF and Assam Rifles, the two forces that guard the Bangladesh and Myanmar border...////...
