Srinagar, June 13 (Reporter) Temperatures across Kashmir are expected to come down slightly by a few degrees from Saturday onwards, offering some relief from the prevailing heatwave.
However, the temperatures may remain a few degrees above the seasonal average, according to an independent weather observer, Kashmir Weather.
He said the forecast up to June 15 indicates predominantly dry weather conditions across most parts of the region, although a few isolated areas may experience thundershowers.
Between June 16 and 17, the weather is likely to remain mostly dry, with a possibility of a rain spell or thundershower activity in some areas, particularly in the Jammu region, which has been witnessing intense heat in recent weeks.
From June 18 to 19, dry weather is again expected to dominate, although a brief shower cannot be ruled out in one or two locations.
Meanwhile, dry and hot weather conditions persisted across the Kashmir Valley on Friday, although there was a slight dip in temperatures compared to the previous day.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4°C, which is 4.4°C above normal. This comes a day after the summer capital registered a scorching 34.2°C on Thursday — an increase by 6.2°C above normal.
MeT said that Qazigund in south Kashmir registered 32.8°C, 6.1°C above average for this time of the year.
The health resort of Pahalgam recorded 28.2°C, which is 4.5°C above normal, while the border district of Kupwara touched 31.9°C, exceeding the average by 3.7°C.
Even the hill station of Gulmarg, usually known for mild summer weather, recorded 23.0°C up by 4.2°C.
Kashmir also witnessed warm Thursday nights, with the minimum temperatures staying 2–5°C above normal in most parts of the valley.
