Telangana: MLC Kavitha appeals to CBI for notice reconsideration

Hyderabad, Feb 25 (Reporter) Nizamabad MLC Kalwakuntla Kavitha has written to the CBI, requesting the cancellation or withdrawal of notices issued to her for appearance citing her busy electioneering schedule. The CBI had issued a notice to Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor scam, requiring her presence in the national capital on February 26. In the letter sent on Sunday, Kavitha expressed her willingness to provide information virtually and underscored prior commitments for which she would be unable to be present in person on February 26. Kavitha highlighted the discrepancy between the current Section 41A notice and a similar notice issued under Section 160 in December 2022. She expressed concerns about the unclear reasons for issuing the Section 41A notices, especially given the timing with parliamentary elections looming. She emphasised that being called to Delhi would impede her participation in the election process due to campaign responsibilities. The MLC argued that such a move would infringe upon her democratic and constitutional rights, clarifying that she has not been implicated in the allegations made by the CBI, and the case is already pending in court. Kavitha cited a previous assurance from the Additional Solicitor General of the Supreme Court regarding her non-involvement in the investigation while the case was sub judice. She asserted that this guarantee should extend to the CBI as well. Expressing her commitment to cooperate with the CBI investigation as a law-abiding citizen, Kavitha questioned the timing of the notices after a 15-month gap and raised suspicions about the change in sections...////...
