Telangana CM reviews plans for statewide cow shelters

Hyderabad, May 31 (Reporter) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy conducted a high-level review meeting with officials at the Command Control Centre on Saturday, focusing on the development, management, and conservation of cow shelters across the state. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to constitute a dedicated committee tasked with preparing a comprehensive action plan for the establishment of cow shelters within a specified timeframe. He emphasised that these shelters should be designed to ensure ease of cow protection, management, and welfare. As part of the first phase, the Chief Minister suggested that cow shelters be established on lands owned by Veterinary and Agricultural Universities, associated colleges, and temples. He instructed officials to immediately identify suitable lands for this purpose and ensure that the area allocated for each shelter is not less than 50 acres. CM Revanth Reddy also stressed the importance of allowing cows to graze and roam freely rather than being confined in restricted spaces. He directed that state-of-the-art infrastructure be planned for these shelters and that detailed proposals be drawn up, including budget estimates for construction, maintenance, and animal care. The Chief Minister also proposed exploring the involvement of charitable organisations in the management and upkeep of the shelters to ensure long-term sustainability and community participation. As part of the review, the Chief Minister examined various design proposals for the planned cow shelter at Mkepalli in Moinabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy district. He suggested several modifications to the architectural plans and construction layouts to enhance functionality and comfort for the animals. The government is expected to finalise the model design for cow shelters within the next four to five days.
