Hyderabad, Sep 20 (Reporter) The Telangana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, convened on Friday evening at the Secretariat, where it was decided to grant expanded powers to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA).
This decision is aimed at empowering HYDRA to take action against illegal structures, particularly in Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of ponds and canals situated within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
In addition, the Cabinet has approved the allocation of 169 officers and 964 outsourced staff members to support HYDRA in carrying out its duties effectively.
During a press briefing tonight following the meeting, Telangana Revenue and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy provided details about the Cabinet's decisions.
One of the key decisions involved renaming three prominent institutions. The Chakali Ailamma Women's College and the Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University will now bear their new names, while the Handloom Technology Institute will be renamed the Konda Laxman Bapuji Handloom Technology Institute.
The institute, which initially started with 60 students, is expected to play a significant role in supporting the handloom industry in the state.
Ponguleti also disclosed that 27 urban local bodies and 51 village panchayats within the Outer Ring Road will now fall under HYDRA’s jurisdiction, thereby broadening its scope of operations.
To ensure efficient execution of this plan, a committee of 12 officials will be established to finalize the alignment of the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), another key project in the region. As part of the Cabinet's developmental agenda, 75 acres of land in Manoharabad has been earmarked for a new textile park, while 58 acres in Errupalem, Madhira constituency, have been allocated for an industrial park.
Other important developments include the establishment of a Sports Junior College in Hakimpet, the sanctioning of 35 staff members for a fire station in Eturu Nagaram Mandal, Mulugu district, and the approval of 433 new posts for Mulugu Medical College.
Looking ahead, the Cabinet will reconvene in the first week of October to take further decisions, including those concerning housing for beneficiaries under the Rythu Bharosa and Indiramma schemes.
Meanwhile, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy informed that the Cabinet had approved a revised estimate of Rs 4,637 crores for the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) Tunnel Works, which are projected to be completed by September 2027.
He emphasised the significance of this project, noting that the SLBC tunnel would enable the drawing of Krishna River water from its dead storage, marking a historic achievement.
The Cabinet also set an ambitious goal to complete 400 meters of tunnel work each month and to expedite the completion of pending work on the Dindi Balancing Reservoir.
In a move aimed at providing relief to small paddy farmers (Sanna Vadlu), the Cabinet has approved a Rs 500 bonus per quintal from the Kharif season. Additionally, beginning in January, fine rice will be distributed to ration cardholders to improve food security across the state.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reflected on past remarks made by former Chief Minister KCR, who had been sarcastic about the SLBC project and had neglected its completion. Komatireddy emphasised that the SLBC would finally make Nalgonda district completely fluoride-free once completed, highlighting the importance of this long-pending project for the region...////...
