New Delhi, June 11 (Reporter) Two Indian nationals recruited by the Russian Army have been killed in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the MEA said on Tuesday night. India has also demanded that a stop be put to any further recruitment of Indian nationals by the Russian Army, saying such activities “would not be in consonance” with the bilateral partnership.
In a late night statement, the MEA said that India has strongly taken up the matter with Russia for the early release and return of all Indian nationals with the Russian Army.
The MEA also urged Indian nationals to exercise caution while seeking employment opportunities in Russia.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said:
“We regret to state that two Indian nationals who had been recruited by the Russian Army have recently been killed in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our Embassy in Moscow has pressed the Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defense, for early repatriation of the mortal remains.
“The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow have strongly taken up the matter with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and with Russian authorities in Moscow respectively, for early release and return of all Indian nationals who are with the Russian Army.
“India has also demanded that there be a verified stop to any further recruitment of our nationals by the Russian Army.
“Such activities would not be in consonance with our partnership.
“We also urge Indian nationals to exercise caution while seeking employment opportunities in Russia.”
Earlier, in March the MEA had said that several Indians were duped into working with the Russian army and had then too strongly taken up the matter with the Russian government for early discharge of the Indians.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had in March busted several “major human trafficking networks” that were “targeting gullible youths” with offers of lucrative jobs abroad and sending them to Russia.
The traffickers were luring Indian nationals through social media channels like YouTube and through their local contacts/agents for "highly paid jobs in Russia". The Indians were promised jobs of "security helper".
The Indian nationals were “trained in combat roles and deployed at front bases in the Russia-Ukraine War Zone against their wishes, thus, putting their lives in grave dangers".
The CBI investigation had revealed that many Indians were also lured to Russia on the pretext of securing admission into private universities and then forced to go to the war zone.
According to reports, around 100 Indians were duped into joining the Russian Army...////...
