Stalin writes to EAM seeking release of TN fishermen on high priority basis

Chennai, Oct 28 (Reporter) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday evening wrote yet another letter to External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr.S.Jaishankar seeking to release all the fishermen from the State from Sri Lankan custody on a high priority basis. In a Demi-official letter to Dr.Jaishankar, the Chief Minister highlighted the incidents of apprehension of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan authorities. The arrests have become a festering issue that calls for constructive diplomatic efforts. This recurrent issue continues to pose a severe threat to the livelihood, safety, and security of the fishermen and their families in India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, he pointed out. He said 12 fishermen from Nagapattinam who were on their fishing boat were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday. In the year 2024 alone, 30 such incidents have occurred. As of today 140 fishermen and 200 fishing boats are under the custody of the Sri Lankan authorities, he said. "I urge your immediate intervention to take up this issue on a high-priority basis to secure the immediate release of all the arrested fishermen and their fishing boats from the Sri Lankan authorities", Mr Stalin said...////...
