Colombo, June 27 (UN) Sri Lanka are on the brink of wrapping up a comprehensive victory in the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club as they left Bangladesh reeling at 115/6 in their second innings, still trailing by 96 runs.
The hosts appear set to seal the two-match series.
A dominant batting display, led by Pathum Nissanka’s majestic 158 and a rapid-fire 84 from Kusal Mendis, powered Sri Lanka to a commanding 456.
Despite a late burst from Bangladesh spinners — including a five-wicket haul by Taijul Islam — the home side built a 211-run first-innings cushion. Kamindu Mendis and Tharindu Rathnayake chipped in with aggressive cameos, while Kusal’s counter-attack late in the innings tilted the momentum definitively.
Bangladesh’s response faltered quickly. Though openers Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque made a brisk start, their top and middle order collapsed under pressure.
Dhananjaya de Silva and Prabath Jayasuriya led the bowling charge with two wickets apiece, while Asitha Fernando continued to torment the visitors with key breakthroughs.
With only four wickets in hand and still needing 96 runs to make Sri Lanka bat again, Bangladesh face an uphill battle going into Day 4...////...
