Chennai, Mar 23 (Reporter) A Special Handloom expo would be held in Chennai from March 25 to 31 which would serve as a platform for designers and industry to collaborate with traditional weavers and establish direct linkages between weavers and the buyers. The expo would bring India’s finest Handloom creations to the people of this megapolis showcasing the intricacies of the weavers. A press release here said the National Design Centre (NDC), with the support of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Union Ministry of Textiles, will organize the expo with the theme ‘The Weaving Tradition: Special Handloom Expo,’ a celebration of India’s diverse and vibrant handloom heritage. The event will be held at suburban Neelankari on the ECR bringing together master weavers and artisans from across the country to showcase their intricate craftsmanship. The week-long expo aims to highlight the artistry of 75 master weavers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and cooperative societies, offering a diverse collection of traditional handloom products. Visitors will be able to explore a wide range of handcrafted textiles, including silk and cotton sarees, dress materials, home furnishings, shawls, stoles, and other heritage fabrics that reflect India’s rich weaving legacy. ‘The Weaving Tradition: Special Handloom Expo’ seeks to establish direct market linkages between weavers and buyers, giving artisans a chance to connect with exporters, wholesalers, and retailers interested in sourcing authentic handloom products.
