Bolu (Türkiye), Jan 21 (Reporter) A devastating fire left at least 66 people died and 51 others injured at a hotel in Northern Türkiye’s Kartalkaya ski resort, the country’s state-run news agency said on Tuesday quoting local authorities..
The fire started at around 0027 GMT (5-57 a.m IST on Tuesday) in a restaurant of the hotel, and spread quickly across the building, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said, according to Anadolu Agency.
Emergency teams from neighbouring cities, including firefighters, disaster response units, and medical teams supported by helicopters were rushed to the spot and around 230 guests evacuated from the hotel.
The fire fighting was on.
The authorities have instituted a judicial commission to with regard to the incident, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said.
The judicial investigation was initiated by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with six public prosecutors assigned, and a five-person expert committee formed.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he had been following the incident closely through relevant institutions since the first moment.
"I wish Allah's mercy to our citizens who lost their lives ... and wish a speedy recovery to our wounded," he said in a post on X.
Kartalkaya in Bolu province is one of Türkiye's premier winter tourism destinations, drawing thousands of visitors during the ski season. The resort lies around 295 kilometers east of Istanbul, Anadolu Agency said...////...
