Six Indians rescued from scam compounds in Myanmar to be repatriated to India

Nay Pyi Taw/New Delhi, Dec 14 (Reporter) Six more Indian nationals trapped at scam compounds in Myawaddy in Myanmar are to be repatriated to India. Since July this year, 101 such Indian nationals have been repatriated, the Indian Embassy said. “Six more Indian nationals trapped at scam-compounds in Myawaddy reached the local police station, for further deportation to India, yesterday. 101 Indians repatriated to India since July 2024. We reiterate our advice against job offers in the area without consulting Missions,” the embassy said. The six Indians have been identified as Ajay Kumar, Mustafa, Sukhchain, Batchu Manikanta, Samir Ahmad and Kuldip. There has been an increase in the incidences of Indian nationals falling victim to the international crime syndicates active in Myawaddy region on the Myanmar-Thailand border, the Indian Embassy said in an advisory, adding that a new region, Pha Lu area, south of Myawaddy, has emerged as the new area where most Indian victims are being trafficked into via Thailand, after being recruited from India as well as countries like Malaysia, UAE etc. It urged Indians not to accept job offers floated through social media platforms or other unverified sources. It asked the Indian nationals to check the credentials of foreign employers with the Indian Embassy in Myanmar. According to sources, the release and repatriation of Indian nationals stuck in fake job rackets and scams is a complex task. Myawaddy area in Myanmar is totally inaccessible, including for the Myanmar security forces. The area is controlled by opposition forces. The government of Myanmar tries to help, but its reach is limited. It facilitates immigration and exit only after the Indian nationals reach a local police station. The Indian Mission thus needs to approach non-government stakeholders without jeopardizing relations with the Government of Myanmar for the rescue efforts, the sources added...////...
