Six detained in Srinagar for inciting sectarian unrest

Srinagar, Jan 15 (Reporter) J&K Police on Wednesday detained six persons for allegedly inciting sectarian unrest through derogatory remarks. Police said the six miscreants have been charged under sections 126 & 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita( BNSS) and detained at Central Jail, Srinagar. “ 6 miscreants have been charged under sections 126 & 170 of the BNSS and have been detained at Central Jail, Srinagar, for inciting sectarian unrest through derogatory remarks,” a police statement said. The two sections of BNSS empower law enforcement authorities to take preventive measures in situations where there is credible information about a potential breach of peace or disturbance to public tranquility. The police has also warned the public that any individual found engaging in similar unlawful activities, including posting or sharing sectarian content with the intent to create division or disturb public harmony, will meet the same fate. “ We are watching,” police said. Meanwhile, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a conglomerate of major religious bodies of Jammu & Kashmir, on Wednesday expressed grave concern over attempts to disrupt communal harmony and brotherhood in the region by stoking sectarian tension.
