Gangtok, June 2 (Reporter) The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) seems headed for a landslide win, with leads in 28 seats in the 32-member Sikkim Assembly, where counting is underway on Sunday.
The main opposition, the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), was ahead in only one seat.
Chief Minister and SKM supremo Prem Singh Tamang, who is contesting from Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung seats, has taken sustainable leads over his rivals in both seats.
Tamang's wife, Krishna Kumari, is also in the lead from Namchi-Singhithang constituency on SKM ticket.
On the other hand, SDF chief Pawan Kumar Chamling is trailing in both seats, Poklok-Kamrang and Namcheybung.
Another SDF star candidate, Bhaichung Bhutia, is also trailing from Barfung (BL-Reserved) seat.
Bhutia, a former Indian soccer skipper, merged his Humro Sikkim Party with Chamling's SDF last November.
The only seat from which SDF is ahead is Shyari, where its candidate, Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, has been maintaining a steady lead. Lamtha switched to the SDF from SKM recently.
The BJP, which had contested alone after breaking its tie-up with the SKM, is trailing in all the seats it had contested.
The Congress and Citizen Action Party-Sikkim (CAP-S) were also lagging far behind.
