Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Aug 11 (Reporter) Seven members of a family lost their lives,
and three others remain missing after the vehicle they were traveling in was swept away by the strong current of the flooded Jaijon Choe, a seasonal rivulet about 34 km from here on Sunday.
The rivulet was swollen due to heavy rainfall, according to police reports.
Hoshiarpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime and NSPS Act) Jagir Singh said 10 members of a family, along with the driver, were traveling from Dehra, near Mehatpur in Himachal Pradesh, to attend a wedding in Mehrowal village in SBS Nagar (Nawanshahar) district in a rented car. On the way, their car was swept away in the Jaijon Choe, which was in spate after heavy rain.
Seven people lost their lives, while three others were missing after the vehicle they were traveling in was swept away by the flooded Jaijon Choe.
Villagers from Jaijon, who witnessed the incident, managed to rescue one occupant, Deepak Bhatia of Dehra, from the floodwaters. He was taken to the Government Dispensary in Jaijon for first aid.
DSP Jagir Singh confirmed that seven bodies, including those of two women, had been recovered from the shoe. Efforts are ongoing to locate the three people who remain missing.
