Mumbai, Jan 1 (Reporter) The BSE Sensex on Monday, the first day of new year surged 436.77 pts at 78,575.78 in opening session on the strength of Industrial, IT and Telecommunications stocks. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 90.45 pts at 23,735.25. The Sensex registered intra-day high at 78, 637.71 and low at 77, 898.30 pts. The Nifty registered days high and low at 23,778.85 pts and by 23,562.80 pts respectively. The Mid cap rose 0.11 pc and Small cap by 0.73 pc. In 30 scrips, 24 advanced while 6 declined. The gainers were M& M by 1.67 pc to Rs 3057.10, L& T by 1.64 pc to Rs 3667.10, Asian paints by 1.57 pc to Rs 2317.90 and Bajaj Finance by 1.37 pc to Rs 6915. The losers were Adani Ports by 0.57 pc to Rs 1221.95, NTPC by 0.52 pc to Rs 331.60 and Tata Steel by 0.43 pc to Rs 137.50...////...
