Sensex surges 496.37 points

Mumbai, Jan 19 (Reporter) Snapping a losing streak of the last three sessions, the BSE Sensex jumped 496.37 points to close high at 71,683.23 on the strength of Oil and Gas, Telecommunications, industrials, and energy stocks amid a positive Asian market. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 160.15 points to 21,622.40. The NSE registered days high and low at 21,670.60 and 21,575 points, respectively. Slumping over 2100 points in the last three sessions, the Sensex rose 600 points to 71,786.74 in the opening session. During the day, it zoomed 709 pts at 71,895.64, days high, before closing at 71,683.23, surging 496.37 pts from its previous close. The stocks that lifted the market were Oil and Gas by 2.17 pc, followed by Telecommunications by 1.79 pc, Industrials by 1.62 pc, and Energy by 1.58 pc. The Mid Cap moved up 1.69 pc, while the Small Cap moved up by 1.06 pc. In 30 scrips, 25 advanced while 5 declined. The gainers were Bharti Airtel by 3.25 pc to Rs 1122, NTPC by 3.21 pc to Rs 308.95, Tech Mahindra by 2.56 pc to Rs 1390, M&M by 2.47 pc to Rs 1657.15, and Tata Steel by 2.37 pc to Rs 134.15. The losers were IndusInd Bank by 3.25 pc to Rs 1560.80, Kotak Bank by 0.88 pc to Rs 1761.75, HDFC Bank by 0.80 pc to Rs 1474.90, and SBI by 0.02 pc to Rs 628.15. The Asian market was up as Strait Times went up by 0.40 pc, Kospi by 1.32 pc, and Set Composite by 0.33 pc...////...
