Mumbai, May 22 (Reporter) Erasing previous day's gains, the BSE Sensex on Thursday tanked 644.64 pts to settle below 81K level to 80,951.99 on weak global cues. Investors across the globe were hit by growing concerns about the US economy.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 203.75 pts to 24,609.70.
A weak 20-year US government bond auction raised concerns about America’s fiscal health, after Moody’s recently cut the country’s credit outlook.
Even, spurt in Corona cases in foreign countries also impacted the same.
Surging over 400 pts on Wednesday, the Sensex opened in red at 81,323.05, declining 273 pts. Within ten minutes, it crashed over 700 pts.
Throughout the session, it remained negative only, as it slumped 1107 pts at 80,489.92, day's low, before closing at 80,951.99, tumbled down 644.64 pts from its previous close.
All stocks were in red, especially Energy, FMCG, Consumer Durable, and IT were slipped more than one percent.
Energy slipped by 1.25 pc, FMCG by 1.25 pc, Consumer Durable by 1.07 pc, and IT by 1.09 pc.
The Nifty registered a day's high at 24,737.50 and a low at 24,462.40 pts.
The mid-cap eased 0.33 pc while the Small cap rose by 0.17 pc.
In 30 scripts, 4 advanced while 26 declined.
The losers were M&M by 2.27 pc to Rs 3017.70, Tech Mahindra by 1.77 pc to Rs 1569.85, ITC by 1.72 pc to Rs 425.50, Bajaj Finserv by 1.54 pc to Rs 2005.35, and Powergrid by 1.44 pc to Rs 291.90.
The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 1.73 pc to Rs 784.45, Bharti Airtel by 0.44 pc to Rs 1830.35, Ultracemco by 0.10 pc to Rs 11671, and Eternal by 0.09 pc to Rs 230.20.
All markets, including the US, European, and Asian markets, were down.
In the Asian Market, Straits Times fell by 0.06 pc, Hang Seng by 1.20 pc, Taiwan Weighted by 0.61 pc, and South Korea Kospi by 1.23 pc...////...
