Mumbai, May 10 (Reporter) The BSE Sensex on Friday jumped 260.30 pts to close positive at 72664.47 on the strength of utilities, commodities, power, and oil and gas stocks amid strong global cues.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 97.70 points to 22055.20.
The NSE registered days high and low at 22,131.30 and 21,950.30 points, respectively.
Slumping over 1000 points on Thursday, the Sensex opened in recovery mode at 72475.45, rising 71 points. During the day, it rallied 542 points at 72946.54, days high, before closing at 72664.47, up 260.30 points from its last close.
The stocks that lifted the market were utilities by 1.61 pc, followed by power by 1.53 pc, oil and gas by 1.38 pc, and commodities by 1.32 pc.
In 30 scrips, 21 advanced while 9 declined.
The midcap gained 0.81 pc and the smallcap gained 0.80 pc.
The gainers were Powergrid by 2.55 pc to Rs 303.65, NTPC by 2.51 pc to Rs 354.70, JSW Steel by 2.45 pc to Rs 853.80 and Asian Paints by 2.22 pc to Rs 2771.15.
The losers were TCS by 1.68 pc to Rs 3893.70, Kotak Bank by 1.17 pc to Rs 1623.10, Infosys by 0.89 pc to Rs 1426 and Wipro by 0.79 pc to Rs 451.35.
In the Asian Market, Strait Times were up by 0.75 pc, Hang Seng by 2.25 pc, and Taiwan Weighted by 0.72 pc...////...
