Mumbai, July 25 (Reporter) The BSE Sensex remained negative for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, sliding 109.08 pts to close at 80,039.80 as heavy selling was seen in Metal, Bankex, and Realty stocks.
Axis Bank's shares slipped over 5 pc on Thursday, dropping to a day's low of Rs 1,168.25 following its announcement of a lower-than-expected net profit of Rs 6,035 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2024.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 7.40 pts to 24,406.10.
High volatility was seen during the day, as the Sensex slumped 606 pts to open at 79,542.11 It tanked further 671 pts at 79,477.83, days low.
In late trade, it was erased earlier losses, but ended in red only at 80,039.80, still down 109.08 pts from its previous close.
Stocks that kept the market low were Metal by 1.19 pc, Bankex by 1.10 pc, Realty by 0.80 pc, and Financial Services by 0.60 pc.
The Mid Cap declined by 0.22 pc and Small Cap by 0.14 pc.
In 30 scrips, 14 advanced while 16 declined.
The losers were Axis Bank by 5.19 pc to Rs 1175.35, Nestle India Ltd by 2.49 pc to Rs 2480.40, Titan. by 2.07 pc to Rs 3401.20, ICICI Bank by 2.06 pc to Rs 1197.50 and Tata Steel by 1.78 pc to Rs 157.45.
The gainers were Tata Motors by 6.17 pc to Rs 1091.05, L& T by 2.94 pc to Rs 3623, Sun Pharma by 2.81 pc to Rs 1665.20 and Kotak Bank by 1.67 pc to Rs 1775.30...////...
