Mumbai, Jun 19 (Reporter) Extending its downward streak for the third straight session, the BSE Sensex on Thursday declined 82.79 points to close at 81,361.87. tracking negative cues from global peers, traders said
A cautious approach from the U.S. Federal Reserve on interest rate cuts and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East also dampened investor sentiment.
The Nifty too fell by 18.80 points to settle at 24,793.25
The Sensex opened lower at 81,403.94 against its previous close of 81,444.66 and fell to an intraday low of 81,191.04. It recorded the day's high at 81,583.94
The Nifty registered the day's high at 24,863.10 and the day's low at 24,738.10
Mid-cap stocks fell by 1.64 pc and the small-cap declined by 1.77 pc.
The market breadth was weak . On the BSE, 968 share rose and 3,009 shares fell. A total of 140 shares were unchanged.
Among sectoral indices, barring consumer durables and auto, all other sectoral indices ended in red with realty being the top sectoral loser, down by 1.63 pc, Other losers were commodities by 1.05 pc, energy 0.69 pc, FMCG by 0.42 pc, financial by 0.73 pc, healthcare by 0.92 pc, industrial by 1.10 pc, IT by 1.14 pc, telecom by 1.06 pc, bankex by 0.31 pc, capital goods 0.57 pc, consumer durables by 1.06 pc, metal by 1.18 pc, oil & gas by 0.82 pc, power by 1,24 pc , utilities by 1.61 pc and tech by 0.64 pc
In 30 scrips, 8 advanced while 22 declined.
Top five losers were Adani Ports by 2.50 pc to Rs 1,338.00, Bajaj Finance by 2.19 pc to Rs 898.70, Tech Mah by 1.95 pc to Rs 1,677.40, Indus Bank by 1.73 pc to Rs 835.85 and Nestle Ind by 1.28 pc to Rs 2,309.10
The top five gainers were M &M by 1.57 pc to Rs 3,088.20, Titan by 0.74 pc to Rs 3,498.50, Maryti by 0.45 pc to Rs 12,799.55, Bharti Airtel by 0.43 pc to Rs 1,873.20 and L&T by 0.32 pc to RS 3,611.10.
European shares declined - DAX by 0.54 pc, CAC by 0.62 pc and FTSE by 0.23 pc
Asian stocks ended lower on Thursday as investors digested the U.S. Federal Reserve’s widely expected decision to keep interest rates unchanged. Adding to the cautious mood, ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran continued to weigh on sentiment. Nikkel 225 fell by 1.02 pc and Hang Sang by 1.99 pc
