Mumbai, Apr 12 (Reporter) Senior Supreme Court Advocate Hitesh Jain has been appointed as full-time member of the 23rd Law Commission of India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources said on Saturday.
Jain, Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Mumbai unit, has served as Special Counsel for Maharashtra in the Supreme Court as also the Bombay High Court.
He has also argued civil, criminal and rent-related matters before District Courts as well as consumer forums, the Competition Commission of India, TDSAT, and in both ad hoc and institutional arbitration, the sources said.
Jain, who got his LLM from the London School of Economics in 1996, has advised clients in complex cases including international corporate transactions, banking and labour laws, and mergers and acquisitions.
He has represented India in conferences and accompanied business delegations abroad, addressing audiences on various subjects concerning Indian law and its jurisdiction. He was also invited to the UK as part of the Indo-British Parliamentary Trust Programme.
He also serves as a visiting faculty at Government Law College and regularly delivers guest lectures at law institutions across the country.
Jain has written a number of articles for leading legal publications, including the World Sports Law Journal. He has also contributed to reports and discussions led by the Competition Commission of India...////...
