Imphal, July 7 (Reporter) In a series of coordinated operations, security forces and Manipur Police apprehended several insurgent cadres and recovered arms and ammunition, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb militant activities in the region yesterday.
Manipur Police official today said Manipur Police arrested three active cadres of the proscribed outfit PREPAK from Keirao Khunou under Irilbung Police Station, Imphal East district.
One of the arrested individuals is a 28-year-old resident of Imphal West district. The remaining two are juveniles and are being dealt with under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Security forces apprehended two active cadres of KCP (PWG) from Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai under Sagolmang Police Station, Imphal East district.
In a separate operation a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from Nepali Basti, Santipur area, under Loktak Police Station, Bishnupur district.
The recovered items include one SLR rifle, one .303 rifle with one empty magazine, two empty AK magazines, two improvised mortars, seven Baofeng handsets with eight chargers, three tear smoke grenades, one stun grenade, three illumination para bombs, six live 12-bore cartridges, three missed .303 rounds, one improvised mortar tripod, one grenade, two bulletproof jackets, eight bulletproof helmets, one pair of shoes, and two belts.
Authorities believe the weapons cache could be linked to underground groups operating in the region. Security agencies remain on high alert as anti-insurgency operations continue across Manipur...////...
