SC to hold special hearing on Jan 27 over 'Orders war' between Calcutta HC Judges

New Delhi, Jan 26 (Reporter) The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the ‘orders war’ between Justices Abhijit Gangopadhyaya and Justice Soumen Sen of Calcutta High Court on the issue of handing over the case to CBI in the Fake caste Certificates scam. A special sitting will be conducted on Saturday by a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud. A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court had stayed the order of the Division Bench and issued directions to ignore the Division Bench order. The matter pertains to an issue where a single judge of the Calcutta High Court Justice Gangopadhyaya while staying the order passed by the division bench ordered a CBI probe, and also accused Justice Sen who headed a division bench of “acting for a political party in the state” The Supreme Court was triggered by orders of Justice Gangopadhyay which has occurred 2nd time in 9 months. The last one being on April 28, 2023, related to an order passed in the Teacher’s Recruitment Scam involving TMC leader & CM Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
