SC seeks reply from Chanda Kochhar as CBI challenges bail

New Delhi, Sep 6 (Reporter) The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice on a plea filed by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging a Bombay High Court bail order that held as “illegal” the arrest of ICICI Bank's former MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar in the Videocon loan case. A Bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice P V Sanjay Kumar sought a response from Kochhar and her husband after hearing Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, who appeared for CBI. In February, the High Court confirmed the interim bail earlier granted to Kochhar and her husband and also termed CBI's arrest of the couple as illegal. This led to the instant appeal by the CBI before the apex court. Kochhar and her husband were arrested by the probe agency in December 2022 on allegations of cheating and irregularities in the sanction of a Rs 3,250 crore loan granted by ICICI Bank in 2012 to the Videocon Group. The couple was granted interim bail by the High Court in January 2023. In February this year, the interim bail was confirmed by the High Court as regular bail...////...
