SC relaxes Journalist Kappan bail condition in UAPA case

New Delhi, Nov 4 (Reporter) Supreme Court on Monday allowed the plea filed by Kerala Journalist Kappan Siddique for relaxation of his bail condition to report to Uttar Pradesh Police every week in a UAPA case registered against him. A bench comprising justice PS Narsimha Justice Sandeep Mehta relaxed the condition set by the top Court while granting bail in the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2022. The Uttar Pradesh Government had booked Kappan under UAPA. It is alleged that Kappan, a reporter for Malyalam News Portal Azhimukham and secretary of Delhi Unit of Kerala Union of Working Journalist (KUWJ) was arrested along with three others in Uttar Pradesh in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras in connection with the gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl. It is alleged that Kappan was travelling to Hathras with an intention to disturb the harmony of the area, and to collect funds to run a website inciting violence.
