New Delhi, Oct 25 (Reporter) The Supreme Court on Friday turned down the plea of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda for suspension of his conviction in the coal mine scam.
Koda had filed the petition against the Delhi High Court order refusing to stay his conviction and pleaded for relief from the apex judiciary enabling him to contest the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly poll.
The bench of Justices Sanjib Khanna and Sanjay Kumar, while throwing away the petition, said conviction cannot be stayed in normal circumstances, as it requires consideration of multiple aspects.
The bench refused to intervene in the order of the Delhi High Court against which Koda had moved the petition.

On October 18 the Delhi High Cout ruled that Koda was not a sitting elected representative at the time of his conviction and so there may not be any irreversible consequences if his conviction is not stayed.
Koda's earlier petition pleading for a stay on his conviction, was also rejected in 2020.
The Delhi High Court had also referred to the Supreme Court's observation in the Navjyot Singh Sidhu case that conviction could be stayed only in exceptional circumstances...////...
