SC rejects petitions seeking Art. 370 judgement review

New Delhi, May 21 (Reporter) The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions seeking review of its judgment upholding the abrogation of the special status enjoyed by Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution. A 5-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant and Justice AS Bopanna dismissed the review petitions noting that there was no apparent error in its judgement delivered on December 11, 2023. The Bench said, “After reviewing our judgement passed on December 11, 2023, we find no case for review under Order XL VII, Rule 1 of the Supreme Court rules 2013,” the bench held. The bench upheld the Presidential Orders which took away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had assured the court that the statehood of J&K would be restored at the earliest. The court refrained from adjudicating the constitutionality of the J&K Reorganisation Act and set a deadline of September 30, 2024, for the holding of elections to the legislative assembly of J&K...////...
