New Delhi, May 19 (Reporter) The Supreme Court on Monday directed that status quo be maintained on the allegedly unauthorized constructions at the Bale Shah Peer Dargah in Uttan, Maharashtra.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih issued notice to the Maharashtra government on a petition challenging the state's demolition decision.
“List after four weeks. Till the next date, there shall be status quo as on today,” the court ordered.
The petition stems from an announcement made by Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule in the state legislative council, in response to a question by legislator Niranjan Davkhare, stating that the Dargah structure would be demolished.
It was alleged that the Bale Shah Peer Charitable Trust had encroached upon government-owned land containing protected mangrove areas near the ecologically sensitive Chowk Jetty in Uttan, close to Bhayandar...////...
