Safety standards for boilers should be strictly followed: Opposition in RS

New Delhi, Dec 4 (Reporter) The Opposition on Wednesday demanded in the Rajya Sabha, to strictly follow the safety standards for boilers. The Opposition members made this demand during the discussion on The Boilers Bill 2024 introduced in the upper house by Industry and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Participating in the discussion, Congress’ Neeraj Dangi said that this is not a matter of the Commerce Ministry. He said that boiler is used in every industry but there is a lot of confusion about it. There are frequent reports of boiler explosions and workers getting injured because of them, therefore special attention needs to be paid to the safety of this. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress member Mausam B Noor said there is a need to strictly enforce safety standards for boilers. The Government should take necessary steps for this. Brij Lal of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that the government is working to change the law of the British era. Boiler is important for every industry and its proper maintenance is essential. John Brittas of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) while participating in the discussion said that the safety standards should not be overlooked. Biju Janata Dal's Sulata Deo said that large number of industries is being set up in Odisha and there is a need for safety standards. Safety standards should be strictly enforced and the boiler should be monitored. Moreover, YSRCP's Golla Babu Rao said that safety of workers should be given top priority. The explosion of the boiler also causes environmental damage and animals are also killed. Appropriate compensation should be given to the families of the workers killed in boiler accidents. Speaking during the discussion, Seema Dwivedi of the BJP said that this bill will improve the safety standards and protect the environment. The bill also takes into account the changes in technology. Digital and direct monitoring system has been provided for the boiler. State-of-the-art technology will be used to make the boilers. Instructions will be given to replace the old boilers and only trained personnel can operate the boiler and the compliance will be transparent and simple. BJP’s Dinesh Sharma said that the government is trying to innovate, provide security and remove anomalies. New industries are coming up which requires new rules. Many laws are being changed and small industries are being promoted. Fauzia Khan of Nationalist Congress Party- Sharad Pawar group said that environment is being ignored in the bill. There are flaws in the monitoring system too. Caution should be exercised in view of deadly Bhopal gas tragedy. Third party verification and evaluation is not enough, security provisions must be strictly followed. Supporting the bill, BJP's Shambhu Sharan Patel said that the safety of workers has been given priority in the bill. The powers of the central and state governments are described in detail, so there is no scope for conflict. Criminal provisions have been removed in the bill which will help in attracting industries...////...
