Bengaluru, Apr 20 (Reporter) Spiritual leader Sadhguru on Sunday condemned the alleged abduction and killing of a prominent Hindu community leader in Bangladesh's Dinajpur district, and said the "savage persecution of the minority community in Bangladesh must stop". "This savage persecution of the minority community in Bangladesh must stop. This is a blot on the subcontinent and on Humanity. Unacceptable," Sadhguru said in a statement posted on social media. The remarks came in the wake of reports that Bhabesh Chandra Roy, 58, vice-president of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, was abducted from his residence and beaten to death by unidentified assailants on Thursday. The killing has sparked outrage within the Hindu community in Bangladesh and drawn sharp criticism from rights groups. India has protested the killing of the minority Hindu community leader and called upon Bangladesh to take steps to ensure the safety and security of the minority communities. Last month, a report by Dhaka-based Ain-o-Salish Kendra (AsK) revealed 147 incidents of attacks and vandalism targeting religious minorities in Bangladesh. These included 408 cases of household vandalism, 113 attacks on businesses, and 92 cases of idol desecration. Following the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, reports of targeted violence against minority communities, particularly Hindus, have intensified, with homes, businesses, and places of worship being ransacked in several regions, according to Prothom Alo. India has repeatedly raised concerns over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
