Ruling BJD names candidates for last three Assembly seats, drops two sitting MLAs

Bhubaneswar, May 2 (Reporter) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik on Thursday released the names of the candidates for the remaining three Assembly seats in Odisha. The BJD supremo dropped party’s sitting MLA from Korei Ashok Kumar Bal and named Sandhyarani Das, mother of BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das,sitting MLA from Jajpur, who is pitted against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat. The party also dropped sitting MLA from Khandapada Soumya Ranjan Patnaik who was expelled from the party for anti party activities and nominated Sabitri Pradhan in his place. Patnaik named sitting Nilgiri BJP MLA Sukant Nayak who recently quit the BJP and joined the BJD as party candidate for Nilgiri seat. It was a home coming for Sukant as he had won the Nilagiri seat as BJD candidate in 2014 Assembly elections but changed his loyalty to BJP and successfully contested the Nilgiri Assembly seat in 2019 Assembly election. The BJD changed the candidate in Deogarh Assembly seat, replacing Bamanda queen (Rani) Arundhati Devi, wife of Sambalpur sitting BJP MP Nitish Gang Dev,who had recently joined the BJD and was named as party candidate for Deogarh Assembly seat. The party nominated Romanch Ranjan Biswal for Deogarh Assembly seat replacing Arundhani Devi. Meanwhile, denied by party ticket former Khandapada BJD MLA Anubhanv Patnaik on Thursday resigned from the party. He won the Khandapada seat as BJD candidate in 2014 Assembly election...////...
