New Delhi, Mar 24 (Reporter) Amid row over Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's reported Constitution remarks, the Rajya Sabha on Monday witnessed protests by ruling party members leading to adjournment of the Upper House soon after it convened for the day.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Kiren Rijiju raised the issue of Shivakumar's reported remarks on the Constitution in the House.
Rijiju said that one of the senior leaders of Congress party who holds a Constitutional post (DK Shivakumar) had said that he would change the Constitution of India to provide reservation in contracts for Muslim community.
"Members of Parliament from NDA met me and raised this very important issue," the Minister said.
Rijiju said that the issue cannot be tolerated as it was an assault on the Constitution of India. He also sought explanation from Congress party president and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and wanted him to make the grand old party's position clear on the issue.
Amid loud protests over the issue, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned to meet at 2PM today...////...
