United Nations, Jan 17 (Reporter) Reforms of the UN Security Council would help with the prevention and resolution of conflicts, as well as rebalance global relations, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.
“Reforms to the Security Council and a proposed New Agenda for Peace would help to prevent and resolve conflicts and rebalance geopolitical relations,” Guterres said in his address on the state of the world at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Taking steps in that direction would also give developing countries a proportionate voice on the global stage, the UN chief said.
In addition, Guterres pointed out that the existing global institutions, including the UN Security Council, were created 80 years ago and have to be rebuilt for future generations.
“The United Nations is fully engaged this year in efforts to bring them up to date, rooted in equality and solidarity, based on the UN Charter and international law,” Guterres added.
The 2024 edition of the World Economic Forum is taking place from January 15–19. More than 2,800 participants from some 120 countries are expected to attend from business, political, and academic circles...////...
