Srinagar, Oct 12 (Reporter) A strategic road in the Uri sector of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, was among the 75 infrastructure projects of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which were virtually dedicated to the nation by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday.
Rajnath virtually dedicated the Mohura-Bazz Road, a crucial 39.27 km long road that connects to forward areas near the Line of Control (LoC). This is among key projects developed by BRO, which enhance India's border infrastructure.
The Mohura-Bazz Road holds immense strategic and logistical importance for both the Indian Army and local residents.
As the only route connecting remote areas in the sector, it ensures year-round accessibility and reduces travel time for both troops and civilians, officials said.
Commander Amiya Shrivastava, of the 760 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), highlighted that the road's completion will significantly ease troop movement and civilian access, especially during harsh winters when heavy snowfall often cuts off the area.
“The area remained cut off for a longer period during snow. The construction of the road and the bridge can not only reduce the time of travel for troops and the civilians but has a great strategic importance,” he added.
The road starts at Mohura, located on the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri route, after crossing a major 74-meter steel bridge over the Jhelum River. The difficult terrain, including steep hillsides and landslide-prone areas, presented a significant challenge during construction. Two major bridges have also been built along the route.
Lt Col K. Arvind, Officer Commanding 53 RCC, praised the BRO for completing the project in a short time, emphasizing its strategic importance in improving road connectivity for both military and civil purposes.
With a cost of Rs 7444.81 lakhs, this road is expected to bolster national defense capabilities and improve the lives of local communities, particularly by reducing the region’s isolation during winter months.
Besides, another road stretch of over 10 kms connecting addition Tutmari Gali, a high mountain pass in Kupwara district of Kashmir along the LoC, was inaugurated by the Defence Minister. The road also holds significance in view of its difficult terrain. Constructed by 99 RCC of Project Beacon this road will help the soldiers to carry logistics to the forward posts...////...
