Srinagar, Jan 25 (Reporter) Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday predicted rain on plains and snow over isolated higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
The 2-month-long dry spell is likely to come to an end as the weatherman predicted the weather will remain generally cloudy with light snow at isolated higher reaches towards night on Thursday while light rain over plains and light snow at isolated higher reaches towards early morning on Friday.
On January 27, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy with the possibility of light snow at isolated higher reaches towards late evening, while from January 28–29, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places over Jammu and Kashmir.
The wet weather is likely to continue with the possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places during January 30-31 and light to moderate rain or snow at many places on February 1 and 2, the MeT office added.
The weather office has also issued an advisory in view of the forecast that may lead to the temporary closure of roads in higher reaches and important passes, including Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna and Razdan Pass, Zojila, etc., particularly during January 28–31. Travelers have been advised to plan their trip accordingly.
Night temperatures improved in Kashmir Valley on Thursday as Srinagar recorded a low of -3.6°C against the -5.3°C recorded the previous night. It was 1.3°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season, the MeT office said.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 11.6°C on the previous day, which was 4.7°C above normal against 6.9°C.
Pahalgam remained the coldest place and settled at -6.3°C for the second consecutive day on Thursday. It was still 1.2°C above normal for the tourist hot spot of south Kashmir.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of -4.2°C against -5.4°C a day ago, while the picnic spot in south Kashmir’s Kokernag settled at -1.6°C against the -2.3°C recorded the previous night.
The minimum temperature slightly improved at Gulmarg and was recorded at -4.5°C against -4.8°C a day ago. However, it was 2.7°C above normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.
Kupwara had a low of -3.7°C against the -5.3°C recorded the previous day. It was 0.8°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district during this period of the season, the MeT office said...////...
