Chandigarh, Mar 3 (Reporter) In a significant breakthrough, the State Cyber Crime Division (SCCD) has arrested the main accused involved in running a fake website and impersonating the Mining Department of the Punjab Government, State Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday. Yadav said that the main accused, Gaurav Kumar, has been arrested for cloning the Punjab Govenment’s mining portal. He issued fraudulent permits for illegal mining, causing a loss of Rs 40-50 lakh to the state. The accused, in connivance with a mining businessman, generated 2000 plus fake receipts using QR/barcodes to bypass security checks. The DGP said that the modus operandi involved generating and issuing fake mining forms, spoofed the official website by the accused, to facilitate the movement of vehicles engaged in illegal mining and causing substantial losses to the state exchequer. He said an FIR was registered, and further investigation is underway to uncover the full nexus.
