Amritsar, Jan 27 (Reporter) Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday condemned the desecration of the statue of Baba Saheb BR Ambedkar and attempt to break it.
Majithia demanded a high level probe to uncover the pre-planned and premeditated conspiracy to create division in civil society and disturb peace and communal harmony in Punjab.
He said “the very fact that the attack on the statue was conducted on Republic Day when the entire
state as well as the holy city was in a state of high alert, had exposed the total failure of the Amritsar Police Commissionerate.
Accountability should be fixed for this failure and due action should be taken against Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. The Police Commissioner should also explain why the Amritsar police allowed such an incident to take place under its nose and stern action should be taken against all those responsible for the gross dereliction of duty”.
Majithia said it was clear that anti Punjab forces were at work to disturb the peace of Punjab but Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was not doing anything to correct the situation.
“The Chief Minister, who holds the home portfolio, has failed to hold any review meeting to take stock of the recent bomb blasts in the border area. Even now the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is trying to give an impression that everything is under control when the truth is that every section of society, including the weaker sections, are living in a state of constant fear”.
He also pointed out how Mann had failed to take stock of the situation and had even sent a wrong message by changing the venue for his Republic Day address from Faridkot to Patiala on account of security threats.
Speaking about the incident, Majithia asked how a person could assess a ladder to climb up to the statue and why the ladder was left in place there. “All this points to a wider conspiracy to insult the framer of the constitution Ambedkar on Republic Day to incite people and spoil the atmosphere in the state”...////...
