Phagwara, Jan 11 (Reporter) A potential disaster was narrowly averted near Phagwara railway station when a freight train en route to Ludhiana encountered a technical glitch that led to one of its wagons detaching. The incident occurred near Kherra road rail crossing, where the train’s engine and several wagons continued forward, leaving the disconnected wagon behind. Eyewitnesses reported that the detached wagon came to a halt just beyond the railway gate, preventing what could have been a catastrophic accident. Had the wagon reached closer to the crossing, it could have posed significant risks to vehicles and pedestrians. According to sources, the freight train had departed from Phagwara railway station after receiving the signal. As it approached Kherra road rail crossing , the hook of one of the wagons loosened, causing it to separate from the train. Upon receiving information about the incident, railway officials and the station master promptly reached the site to assess the situation. The detached wagon remained stationary near the gate for approximately 20 minutes while railway personnel conducted on-site repairs. Following this swift action, the train resumed its journey toward Ludhiana. This incident highlights the critical importance of regular maintenance and inspections of railway equipment.
