Punjab: ECI allows Covid-19 affected person to vote through postal ballot in upcoming by-elections

Ludhiana, May 27 (Reporter) The Election Commission of India has specified that the Covid-19 suspect or affected person, who applies for voting by postal ballot paper and subject to verification of their request by the Returing Officer concerned, can vote by postal ballot in the current by-election to 64-Ludhiana West Assembly Constituency in Punjab. A notification in this regard was issued by ECI on May 26 under Section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as per the provisions in Part-IlA of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 as amended vide Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, earlier notification issued on June 19, 2020, read with the directions and guidelines issued by the Election Commission on the subject. In pursuance of the provisions of clause (e) of Section 60 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Election Commission of India specified that the Covid-19 suspect or affected person, certified by competent authority, who applies for voting by postal ballot paper and subject to verification of their request by the Returing Officer concerned, would be a class of persons to cast their vote by postal ballot in the current bye-elections to 64-Ludhiana West Assembly Constituency in Punjab...////...
