Punjab: Akal Takht withdraws award given to PS Badal

Chandigarh, Dec 2 (Reporter) Top Sikh religious body Akal Takht on Monday announced withdrawal of the "Fakhr-e-Quam Panth Rattan" award given to late Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal Patron Prakash Singh Badal, stating that he was involved in arranging the pardon of Sirsa Dera Chief Ram Rahim. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and four other Sikh Priests directed the SAD core committee to accept the resignation of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Announcing punishment, the Akal Takht directed SAD leaders to clean washrooms in Darbar Sahib complex, wash utensils, clean devotees' shoes and attend Kirtan at Gurudwara. They will also be required to wear a plaque reading "Tankhaiya" around their necks. The Akal Takht also directed all leaders of SAD including the 'rebels' to stop making comments against each other and set aside their differences and unite for the sake of Akali Dal. Earlier, Sukhbir Singh Badal admitted his mistakes before the Akal Takht. He acknowledged granting pardon to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the blasphemy incident. He also admitted to promoting police officers who were allegedly involved in killing innocent Sikhs. He confessed to giving advertisements in newspapers regarding Ram Rahim's apology...////...
