Punjab: 3 men killed, two others injured in clash

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Nov 9 (Reporter) Three men were killed, and two others were injured in a clash involving sharp-edged weapons in Punjab's Hoshiarypur district on Saturday, police said. The incident occured at Moranwali village, in Garhshankar sub-division. SSP Surendra Lamba identified the deceased as Manpreet Singh, alias Mani, Sukhpiar Singh, alias Sukha, and Saranpreet Singh. Police teams reached the scene around 2 pm after receiving information about the clash and transported the injured to Civil Hospital, Garhshankar, where doctors declared Manpreet Singh, Sukhpiar Singh and Saranpreet Singh dead from injuries inflicted by sharp-edged weapons. The two injured men, identified as Gurpreet Singh and Deepakpreet Singh, are under police guard at the hospital. SSP Lamba said the initial investigations revealed Gurpreet Singh, who operates a de-addiction centre in Moranwali, had a prior dispute with Manpreet Singh over the movement of young men to the centre. The two had reportedly clashed over this issue about 15 days ago. The altercation escalated when the groups encountered each other again today. Gurpreet Singh’s group reportedly included about 12 individuals, while the three deceased were alone at the time, Lamba added.
