Police nabs interstate smuggler with poppy straw in J&K's Udhampur

Jammu, July 19 (Reporter) Police on Friday cracked an interstate drug smuggling racket and arrested one person with a huge quantity of poppy straw in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. Police said a narcotics smuggling bid has been foiled by recovering 344 kg of poppy straw and arrested one person at a naka point zero more in the Chenani area of district. Police said that amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team led by SHO Inspector Pushpinder Singh while on naka checking stopped one oil tanker for checking which was coming from Srinagar towards Jammu. In the process of search, 23 bags (total net quantity 344 kgs 100 grams) filled with poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle. On preliminary inquiry, police said that the driver identified as Harpreet Singh, resident of Jastana Khurd, Dera Bassi Mohalla Punjab was arrested on the spot and the vehicle and contraband was seized.
