Srinagar, Mar 10 (Reporter) Police on Monday foiled a march of Jammu and Kashmir Casual and Daily Wagers Form (JKCDF) to Chief Minister's house at Gupkar Road by detaining several members in Srinagar.
The JKCDF protestors assembled at Jal Shakti lawns here and were supposed to take out a procession up to the Chief Minister house at Gupkar Road to press their demands including regularisation of their jobs.
However, police swung into action and foiled their attempt to move forward from the Jal Shakti office at Exchange road.
Talking to media persons Public Health Engineering (PHE) daily wagers President Muzaffar Parray said that “JKCDF had planned to gherao the Chief Ministers residence at Gupkar road today but police detained our members and lodged them in various police stations of Srinagar since morning”.
He described the police action as “sheer frustrations of the authorities and condemned it”.
“We are not asking for stars but to fulfil the promises made in the election manifesto for the regularisation of the daily wagers and casual labourers”, he said.
Parray said that the administration failed to mention anything about the daily wagers and casual labourers in the recent budget.
He said “since 2014 nothing concrete came out in favour of the daily wagers and casual labourers even Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government formulated SRO 25 besides the Prime Minister of India on the floor of the house said that justice would be done with the low budget employees”.
“If the government enhanced the salary of daily wagers from Rs 14000 to Rs 45000 in the Union Territory of Ladakh and in Delhi the daily wagers are being paid Rs 29000 why the employees of Jammu and Kashmir are not being paid the monthly wages on the same basis”, he questioned.
He threatened that employees would hold a massive protest in front of the civil secretariat on Thursday if the regularisation act was not implemented by the government...////...
