Phagwara, Feb 19 (Reporter) In a significant breakthrough, the district police successfully apprehended the main accused, identified as Tanish alias Bhinda of Subhash Nagar Phagwara, in the recent attack on Shiv Sena Punjab Vice-President Rajesh Palta on Monday. The arrest comes after a joint meeting of Hindu organisations convened at Hanuman Garhi Phagwara, where leaders had issued a stern ultimatum for the accused to be captured by February 20. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved the assault on Rajesh Palta and the vandalism of a shop belonging to Youth Shiv Sena leader Rahul Karwal. In response to the escalating situation, the Phagwara police swiftly registered two separate FIRs, adding charges under sections 452, 379, and 379B of the IPC. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vatsalya Gupta, speaking at a press conference on Monday, highlighted the use of CCTV footage to uncover the truth behind the attack. The ongoing investigation has revealed the possibility of old personal enmity being a contributing factor, and SSP Bhatti emphasised that the police are conducting a thorough inquiry. The joint meeting of Hindu organisations, attended by prominent figures such as Phagwara BJP former President Tejaswi Bhardwaj, Ramesh Sachdeva, BJYM ex-president Sanju Chahal, Rajeev Chahal, Shiv Sena Punjab Spokesperson Vipin Sharma, Youth Shiv Sena North Zone President Micky Pandit, and Press Secretary Kamal Saroch, expressed concerns about the potential for further attacks on Hindu leaders. Adding to the urgency, community leaders demanded the inclusion of Section 295 of the IPC in the FIR, underscoring the need for stringent action against the perpetrators. There are growing fears that miscreants may target Hindu leaders during their ongoing donation collection drive.
